Abstract

This begins the third volume of the magazine of science, Environment. Though most of the articles in it are intelligible and interesting to general members of the educated public, it is not a magazine of popular science, and will endeavour to remain scientific. The reader does not require to be a physicist, chemist, geologist or biologist to enjoy most of the papers here published, but the idea definitely is to educate, and not merely to excite or to amuse. It forms a link between the scientist and those who want to know what the scientist is doing and thinking, without necessarily studying the subject. The magazine also provides articles for those who have a knowledge of the general principles of the science concerned, and also articles for the student and for the school pupil.
