Abstract

Liversidge Research Lecture delivered before the Royal Society of N.S.W., August 19th, 1948. Reproduced by permission of the Royal Society of New South Wales from J. Proc. Roy. Soc. N.S.W., 1948, 82, 183-195.

"There have been many outstanding achievements in science in the past ten to fifteen years, and I think that the development of methods for separating isotopes must come within this category, not only because of its immediate interest to chemistry, but also because a vast amount of important information has been gained by the use of the separated isotopes."

Author Biography

  • Ian Lauder, The University of Queensland

Ian Lauder (1914–2008) was, at the time of his Liversidge Lecture, Associate Professor of Chemistry at the University of Queensland. His main research interests concerned the use of oxygen-18 as a tracer in mass spectrometry and in the study of chemical reactions. During WWII he worked in the Lubricants and Bearings Section at the CSIR with Dr Bowden of the 1944 Lecture.
