Abstract

The visual poem Fantastic Map #1 explores the failure of Closer Settlement in the Riverina region where Oswin grew up.  Oswin's work explores the spatial history of the region and the phrase  "Tilt Country" is used to refer to this same inland delta area of the Riverine Plain. 

Author Biography

  • Verity Oswin, University of Adelaide

    Verity Oswin is a poet, mother and documentary producer. Her feminist pastoral poetry worries at the fraught relationship of settler Australia with the land and is informed by a childhood on a remote farm in the Riverina. She has been the recipient of numerous awards and her writing has been published both in Australia and abroad.   She received a High Commendation in the Newcastle Poetry Prize in 2024.
