Abstract

The paper discusses Mrs W. I. Thrower's novel Younah!: A Tasmanian Aboriginal Romance of the Cataract Gorge a captivity narrative that creates a romantic history of place for the non-Aboriginal population that makes its central figure, the white girl captured by Aboriginal people, into a textual intercessor between the white reader and the native landscape.
