Nàgàrjuna’s Stutyatãtastava and Catuþstava: Questions of Authenticity

Abstract

This paper will review the evidence regarding the Catutstava 

and argue that the question of its make up does not involve Nagarjuna but only his later commentators. Furthermore, the paper will demonstrate that the answer to that question does not help in deciding the authenticity of those hymns or any others. The paper will also discuss the authenticity of the Stutyatatastava and argue that its acceptance as genuine hymn of Nagarjuna is warranted.
