This article discusses affinities and connections between Rilke's 'animal poetry' and Franz Marc's paintings, as well as the ecocritical potential and challenges of their works.

Author Biography

Luke Fischer

Dr Luke Fischer is a scholar and poet. His research focuses on interdisciplinary connections between poetry and philosophy. He recently completed a book manuscript on Rainer Maria Rilke. In 2008 Fischer received his PhD from the University of Sydney for his thesis on Rilke and phenomenological philosophy. He has held research and teaching positions at universities in Germany and the US. He currently lives in Sydney and is co-editing a volume (SUNY Press) on the seasons and environmental thought.
