Ensete, Ensete glaucum, E. superbum, taxonomy, synonym, India
Abstract
A detailed account of the genus Ensete (Musaceae) in India is presented, including a key to the two species
known from the country. Updated descriptions and colour photographs of each species are provided, with
notes on the phenology, ecology, distribution, cytology, morphological variation and uses. We also provide a
brief history of the genus and descriptions of the two species present in India. Ensete lecongkietii is treated here
as a synonym of E. superbum.
The University of Sydney acknowledges that its campuses and facilities sit on the ancestral lands of Aboriginal and
Torres Strait Islander peoples, who have for thousands of generations exchanged knowledge for the benefit of all.
