This pilot study at the University of Hawai’i at Mānoa explores online undergraduate students' strategies and challenges as they navigate distance education's administrative, academic, and technical aspects of a fully online completion degree while fostering a sense of belonging. The study used the multi-dimensional TIPEC framework of Ali, Uppal, and Gulliver (2018) and the theory of Sense of Belonging. The paper shows that for students to acquire the certifications needed to advance their careers, they require programs to offer administrative clarity, flexibility, and broad learning possibilities. In addition, the participants revealed that their sense of belonging originated from their connection to a program that gave prominence to their Hawaiian and Pacific cultures.
