Abstract

Over the past few years we have been utilizing the online resources that accompany our first year undergraduate chemistry text in a variety of means. These include the Pearson product Mastering Chemistry™ and associated tools Learning Catalytics™ and Dynamic Study Modules. The resources have been used for formal assessment as both formative revision assignments and summative through timed online tests as well as for self-regulated study options with weekly homework tasks and other activities provided. The analysis of student performance in first year chemistry units relative to the level of student engagement with the various online resources will be presented. The uptake of the self regulated study options has been lower than hoped and we wish to raise the engagement with these resources to see if overall performance in the unit can be improved.
