Abstract

Publishing is a key way to share effective teaching practices and new knowledge. It also provides evidence of the impact of teaching-related research, which is important for career progression for both discipline-based education researchers and education-focused academics. However, because discipline-based education research (DBER) is still an emerging field, publishing in this area can be more challenging than in more established disciplines. This workshop features a panel of experienced editors from a selection of science education journals, including the International Journal of Innovations in Science and Mathematics Education (IJIISME), Research in Science Education (RISE), Journal of Chemical Education (JCE), Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Education (BaMBEd). The aim of the workshop is for participants to better understand which journals to target, the editorial process, and to gain confidence in how to prepare a manuscript for their chosen journal. Panel members will introduce their journals, provide advice, and identify common issues that they see in the manuscripts they handle. This will include discussion of how best to structure and write papers to increase chances of publication. Ample time will be provided for questions and dialogue, allowing attendees to raise specific concerns, seek feedback, and engage in conversation with both the panel and fellow participants.
