Teachers as learners: an experiential journey through e-learning

Abstract

Virtual Geology Excursions is an entirely online postgraduate unit, targeted at practising secondary science teachers. The primary aim of the unit is to raise awareness of ICT rescources and how they can be used to enhance secondary teaching in the earth sciences, and to give teachers the confidence and technical skills to find, evaluate, adapt and create resources for use in their classrooms. The philosophy and structure of the unit are discussed, as is the challenge of developing an effective online unit suitable for professional education.
