About the Journal

The Sydney Interdisciplinary Journal of Engineering (SJIE) is a fully open-access, non-profit academic platform established by the School of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at the University of Sydney. Designed to empower students and foster collaboration, the SJIE provides an inclusive space for publishing research that spans disciplinary boundaries. It serves as a hub for innovation, learning, and knowledge-sharing across all faculties, reflecting the University’s commitment to interdisciplinary excellence.

The SJIE is more than a journal; it acts as a learning ecosystem. By integrating student-led research, faculty contributions, and collaborative projects, it offers a unique opportunity for students to develop essential academic and research skills early in their degree. From coursework-based studies to independent investigations, SJIE showcases the creativity, grit, and potential of emerging engineers.

Mission

To provide an accessible, student-focused platform that nurtures research capability, fosters interdisciplinary collaboration, and promotes academic excellence through open knowledge sharing for students, academic staff and interested collaborating organisations alike.

Vision

To become a leading model for student-driven publishing, bridging disciplines and create a community of learners, educators, and researchers who advance engineering and education boundaries.

Purpose

  • For Students: Offer a space to publish research, gain experience in academic writing, and build confidence in scholarly and research skills.
  • For Staff and the University: Showcase the depth of expertise, resources, and talent across the institution, reinforcing its reputation and attracting strategic partnerships that drive innovation and deliver solutions to improve societal well-being and environmental sustainability.
  • For the Broader Community: Provide free, high-quality research outputs that contribute to global knowledge and inspire innovation.
