Abstract

This review article is a critical assessment of the recent Cambridge History of Australian Literature (CHAL) in the framework of earlier Australian literary histories. It looks at the limitations of CHAL in terms of its content, arrangement and methodologies and in the context of what has already been achieved in earlier literary history models.
