Abstract

Clancy's four novels, although different in genre, deal with the same underlying problem of the modern human, often a lapsed Catholic. trying to consruct a life in the secular city.

John McLaren, Victoria University

John McLaren is Emeritus Professor in the College of Arts, Victoria University, Melbourne. He has edited the Australian Book Review and Overland, and has written several books on Australian and Pacific literature.
